Using LED strips the reflection from matte surface is dot-less even without diffuser if the distance from the surface is more than 3.5 cm for 60LED/m, more than 2.5cm with 120 LED/m LED strip. However if there are shiny mirroring surfaces like porcelain tiles or glass the reflection may show dots. If you can see the light source and/or there are glass and shiny surfaces from which you can see the reflection of the light source you will need diffuser to achieve dot-less effect and depending on the depth of the profile and LED density of the LED strip you need to consider what type of diffuser is ideal for your project.
For Black or transparent diffusers in these cases the use of COB LED strip is the right way to achieve dot-less effect.
